Why Do We Distribute Free Urdu Bibles?

A Bible Most Families Cannot Afford
Pakistan is home to more than 240 million people. Millions of its Christians, most of them poor, many of them labourers, brick makers and farm workers, have never owned a copy of the Bible. For many families owning one is a dream.
A single Urdu Bible can transform a household. It becomes the book of daily devotion, of family worship on Sunday evening, of comfort in sickness and strength under pressure. Since 2009 Bibles for Pakistan has been placing God's Word into the hands of those who need it most, from rural villages to crowded cities.
Each Bible we give plants a seed of faith that grows for generations.
The Multiplying Effect of a Single Copy
In a pastor's hands
When a pastor receives a Bible it does not serve one person. It is preached to a whole congregation, week after week, and used to prepare every sermon and Bible study.
In a family
When a family receives God's Word it becomes the foundation of their daily devotion and prayer. Children grow up hearing it read aloud.
In a village
Our distribution network reaches churches, Bible colleges and remote villages where Bibles are scarce. Through partner churches we make sure each Bible reaches someone who will treasure it and share its message of hope.
Regular Bibles and Bibles for Children
We distribute two main editions. The regular Urdu Bible is the complete Old and New Testament in a clear typeface and a binding made to last years of daily use. The children's Urdu Bible tells the stories of Scripture with pictures, so that faith begins young.
For pastors and students we add editions with references and helps. All of them are given free, and all of them are in Urdu, the language in which Pakistan prays.
Why Free, and Which Bible
Why give Bibles away free instead of selling them cheaply?
Because the people who most need a Bible are the people who cannot buy one. A labourer in Pakistan earns a daily wage that must feed a family; even a subsidised Bible competes with food. A free Bible removes the only barrier left between a seeking heart and the Word of God.
Which Urdu translation do you distribute?
We distribute the standard Urdu Bible used by the churches of Pakistan, the complete Old and New Testament in a clear, durable edition, and an illustrated Urdu Bible for children. Pastors receive editions with references and helps.
Who receives the Bibles?
Families who request one, believers at gospel crusades and church distributions, pastors and Bible college students, Sunday schools and Christian schools. Every request from an individual is verified before delivery so that each Bible reaches a person who will read it.
Does one Bible really make a difference?
One Bible in a home is read by the whole family, morning and evening, for years. One Bible in a pastor's hands is preached to a congregation every week. Our team has watched a single copy become the centre of a house church.
